Cerebral Palsy Signs and Symptoms
Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy is irreversible brain damage that occurs during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It can also be contracted within the early stages of life and can be from illness or injury.
Signs and Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
Every child is unique and they do not all develop at the same pace. If a child has Cerebral Palsy, it usually cannot be accurately diagnosed until the child ages and fails to meet developmental milestones. Pediatricians are often the medical provider to first tell the parents that their child may have Cerebral Palsy. In many cases infants must be a little older to notice visible symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. However, if you feel as though your child might be developing at a slower rate due to brain injury, some signs and symptoms that hint at Cerebral Palsy are trouble with fine motor skills using fingers or hands, trouble with gross motor skills using arms and legs, trouble sitting up alone, weak muscles, body shakes, jerks, tremors, weak face muscles, excessive drooling, or trouble sucking. Early diagnosis is important to getting rehabilitative care.
